New era for Blitzboks off to strong start after brushing Uruguay aside at Hong Kong Sevens

A new Blitzboks era began on a strong start at the Hong Kong Sevens when they beat Uruguay 21-0 in their Pool B encounter on Friday.

The opener marked the start of the Sandile Ngcobo and Philip Snyman era as Sevens coaches on the World Series.

Two second half tries to add to one in the first sealed the victory for the South Africans.

Selvyn Davids, Shilton van Wyk and Ronald Brown were all on song as they crossed the whitewash.

Brown's conversions made sure the team collected all available points from their tries. Brown could have had two had he not knocked the ball on after being the first to react to a penalty awarded to the Blitzboks.

He crossed the line, ran towards a better angle for the conversion and, as he was about to dot down for the easiest of scores, the ball slipped from his grasp.

His amends though a minute later ensured healthy breathing space between themselves and their opponents.
