New bar and restaurant set to add to thriving Prestwich nightlife scene

A new 68-cover bar and restaurant is set to add to the thriving Prestwich night time economy.

Planning permission has been granted for the premises at Clifton Road, which was formerly the Rufus Bar & Kitchen, around 20 metres from the junction with Bury New Road.

The new venture will also include the next door premises at 4 Clifton Road, which currently has planning permission as a takeaway. A planning statement in support of the plans from applicant Anna Morrison was published by Bury Council.

It said: “The proposal is to create a new bar throughout No 6 and No 4 ground floor and N. 6 first floor. N. 4 first floor will remain as a residential flat.

“The site is very well located for easy transport. Prestwich Metrolink Station is a five-minute walk away, there are multiple taxi ranks within two minutes walk “The area comprises a high density of, restaurants, bars, café and retail business.

“The site benefits from a free car park directly opposite and adjacent street parking for up to two hours.”

A Bury Council planning report, said: “The proposed restaurant would cater for around 68 covers and the existing kitchen serving and the former bar would be retained, and the bar relocated into the former kitchen area of the hot food takeaway.”

Proposed hours of opening would be between 9am and 11pm from Thursday to Sunday. Bury Council have approved the plans in the past week.

Prestwich village has seen several bar openings in recent years with it increasingly becoming a night time destination.
