Never Forget Roy Keane’s Priceless Reaction To Jamie Carragher Leaving Ryan Giggs Out Of A Combined Man United And Liverpool XI

It’s two years to the day since Roy Keane was left gobsmacked by Jamie Carragher on Monday Night Football.

Back in 2020, Manchester United legend Keane and Liverpool icon Carragher were asked to pick their combined XIs from their two sides' most successful Premier League teams.

Sir Alex Ferguson's 1998/99 Treble-winning team are considered one of the best in Premier League history, while Jurgen Klopp's title-winning side from 2019/20 are also in the debate after reaching an incredible 99 points that season.

Keane and Carragher were tasked with naming a combined XI from those two iconic teams, with the United man aghast at his 'opponent' for not including Ryan Giggs.

Keane picked an all United team other than Virgil van Dijk coming in for Ronny Johnson; Peter Schmeichel, Gary Neville, Jaap Stam, Van Dijk, Dennis Irwin, David Beckham, Roy Keane, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Dwight Yorke, Andrew Cole.

Carragher was more balanced, but still picked seven of the Treble-winning team; Peter Schmeichel, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jaap Stam, Virgil Van Dijk, Dennis Irwin, David Beckham, Roy Keane, Paul Scholes, Sadio Mane, Dwight Yorke, Mo Salah.

But there was no place in his team for Giggs, to the disbelief of Keane.

Carragher even took a brilliant screenshot of the best moment of the segment, the Irishman's reaction to hearing about Giggs' omission, which he later made his Twitter profile photo.

The former England defender raised a valuable point that might be the crux of the issue with Klopp's team playing a more modern 4-3-3 system compared to the 4-4-2 United used to win the league, FA Cup and Champions League 21 years ago.
