"Never a good sign": Claim on Bielsa favourite amid Leeds plan

Journalist Pete O’Rourke thinks Leeds midfielder Mateusz Klich is under pressure to rediscover his best form after the club were heavily linked with signing Brenden Aaronson last month.

Klich has spent the last five seasons at Leeds, including an initial loan spell, and he has been a regular member of the side’s starting line-up under Marcelo Bielsa. However, his place in the team could be under threat in the not-too-distant future if the Premier League outfit finally manage to land Aaronson.

Leeds were very keen on bringing the American international to Elland Road, and submitted a £15m bid to his current employers, Red Bull Salzburg.

This offer was rejected, and although Leeds reportedly returned with an improved proposal of £20m, they failed to get a deal over the line. Leeds are now planning to return for Aaronson at the end of the season.

The Yorkshire-based club were also linked with another midfielder last month in the shape of Jason Knight, but he has stayed at Derby for the time being.

O’Rourke feels Leeds being interested in Aaronson and Knight indicates that they are not happy with their current midfield options, including Klich.

He believes the onus is now on the 38-cap international to up his game between now and the end of the season if he wants to remain an important member of the team moving forward.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, O’Rourke said: “It’s never a good sign for a player when you know that your club may be looking to sign two new midfielders, so it does put a bit of doubt in your mind or put you under pressure.

“So, it’s up to Klichnow to respond, and to try and find his best form again.”
