Man City cannot afford to be lulled into Jurgen Klopp's false sense of security

Following Liverpool's 2-0 victory over Leicester City, Jurgen Klopp came out with an admission nobody was expecting.

"I don't think they smell our breath already, but we just try to win football games," he claimed.

"I’m not sure we are in a position to get them on their toes, to be honest.”

Klopp added that there was 'no chance' that the Reds can catch Pep Guardiola's team this season.

As he uttered those words it is likely many in the blue half of Manchester rolled their eyes in unison.

Downplaying your chances of winning the Premier League title is a tactic that has been used before and will certainly be used again.

To suggest Liverpool, who have a game in hand over the Citizens and are still to come to the Etihad this season, should be written off, is ludicrous.

Klopp knows this better than anyone.

But what it does tell us is that Liverpool are getting worried.

City's form has been nothing short of sensational - the last time they lost in the league was October.

Clearly the Reds boss only sees mind games as the way of stopping Guardiola's men, holding onto the belief they will take the foot off the gas if Liverpool declare they are giving up.

If you take a look at Pep's comments before the fixture against Norwich City you can tell that he will not stop pushing his side.

"Far away, never a team will be perfect," he explained.

"As humans we are imperfect. Perfection doesn't exist.

"In sport, especially football it's not an individual sport so many things can be adjusted."

Guardiola will not allow his teams to settle for the standards they are at.

If perfection has not yet been reached having won the vast majority of their matches this campaign, Klopp should not hold his breath when thinking that his words will affect
