Netflix confirms The Witcher season three release date alongside first trailer

Netflix has confirmed the release date for season three of The Witcher and teased fans with its first trailer. The hit fantasy-drama – based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s books of the same name – sees Superman star Henry Cavill back for a third outing as monster hunter Geralt of Rivia.

The minute-long teaser shows the return of several familiar faces including Anya Chalotra as Yennefer and Freya Allan as Ciri. Joining the cast is Upload star Robbie Amell, Shang-Chi actress Meng’er Zhang, Fleabag’s Hugh Skinner and Half Bad’s Christelle Elwin.

The upcoming series will mark Cavill’s final appearance as Geralt following the announcement that Liam Hemsworth will take over the role from season four.

“Now, for the first time, I understand real fear,” Cavill says in the trailer, that also gives glimpses of the Wild Hunt, Rience, and several other villains.

The official synopsis for season three reads: “As monarchs, mages, and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri of Cintra into hiding, determined to protect his newly-reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it.

“Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where she hopes to discover more about the girl’s untapped powers; instead, they discover they’ve landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery.
