Nemanja Matic makes honest admission over the atmosphere inside the Man Utd dressing room

Nemanja Matic has admitted the atmosphere inside the Manchester United dressing room currently is ‘not fantastic’.

United were knocked out of the Champions League by Atletico Madrid earlier this month, with their sole focus now on the Premier League.

The Red Devils are currently occupying sixth place in the league table, four points behind fourth-placed Arsenal while having played a game more than the Gunners.

United have struggled for consistency under interim boss Ralf Rangnick, who is set to take up a consultancy role at Old Trafford at the end of the season.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Matic conceded it will be a ‘very sad’ dressing room if the club fail to qualify for Champions League football.

‘The atmosphere? It depends on results. Of course, when you have good results the atmosphere is much better and everyone is happy,’ United midfielder Matic said.

‘As you know we are not in the best position in the league and the atmosphere is not fantastic, but we have to stay positive and believe until the end because we want to finish in that top-four.

‘The atmosphere in our dressing room will depend on that. If we finish top-four then it will be good for us, everyone will be… I cannot say happy, but satisfied.

‘If we don’t make that, it will be a very sad dressing room.’

‘When you play for a big club [like Manchester United] the pressure and expectation are high. We have to deal with that, of course,’ Matic added.

‘In our dressing room we have so many good players with a good character and we have to accept that and we have to know the pressure is normal.’
