Neil Warnock sends Cardiff City transfer message ahead of busy summer

Former Cardiff City boss Neil Warnock has urged Steve Morison to bring in experienced players as he prepares for a major rebuild this summer.

The current Bluebirds chief has made it clear that he is planning a major overhaul of the squad this summer, with plenty of the squad out of contract which will clear space for new arrivals.

It remains to be seen who will come through the door but Morison has told fans they should be ‘excited’ about the changes that will take place.

And, speaking to the BBC, Warnock, who won promotion with Cardiff, reminded Morison how important it is to have a balanced squad.

“The only thing you’ve got to be careful of, you haven’t got to forget you’re in the Championship, this is not a schoolboy kickabout, the Championship is the most competitive league in the whole world.

“I wouldn’t say you can’t win anything with kids but it’s very difficult. You’ve still got to have a group of good professionals. It’s a difficult league for young lads to sustain, they are hot and cold, so when you go cold you need a rest and you’ve got to make sure the squad can cater for that.”

The verdict

Given Warnock’s record at winning promotion from this level, you would think any manager in the league would take his advice on board!

Of course, what he’s saying here is something Morison will have considered and he will know all about the demands of the Championship given his playing career.

Ultimately, it’s going to be a very busy summer for Cardiff and it will be interesting to see how the team looks when they begin Morison’s first full season in charge in August.
