Neil Warnock's Will Vaulks comments will be music to the ears of Sheffield Wednesday supporters
Sheffield Wednesday have pulled off a major coup by signing Will Vaulks. The Owls fought off strong Championship interest to land the versatile Cardiff City midfielder.
Vaulks' move to Hillsborough ends his three-year association with the Bluebirds. He amassed over 100 appearances in Cardiff colours after swapping Rotherham United for the Welsh capital.
Vaulks, released by Tranmere Rovers as an 18-year-old, was one of three signings made by ex-Sheffield United boss Neil Warnock following Cardiff's relegation from the Premier League in July 2019. Speaking after finalising a deal for Vaulks, Warnock said: "He's right up my street.
"(Rotherham manager) Paul Warne worked under me at Rotherham and said I should take a look at him. He can play in front of the back four but he can also get into the box and get a few goals. He's a good lad and I think I can get a bit more out of him.
"I think he could do better in this side with the players we've got around him and I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do."
Vaulks was a firm fans' favourite at Rotherham and remains in regular contact with Warne. There was talk of the Millers trying to bring Vaulks back to the AESSEAL New York Stadium earlier this summer. Vaulks featured 40 times in all competitions for Cardiff last season, but 13 Championship appearances were from the bench. Vaulks was in and out of the starting line-up for spells in the second half of the campaign.
Warne said: "I obviously love Will, so if I could get anywhere near Will's wage demands that would be a player I like. However, I do not expect Will to sign this summer is probably my nicest answer.
