Neil Warnock forgets Rangers allegiance as he sends Ally McCoist cheeky message in surprise Morton cameo

Smirking Neil Warnock insists he has always been a Morton fan having pledged his allegiances to Rangers in a surprise TV appearance.

The 73-year-old has been out of work since leaving English Championship side Middlesborough earlier this season.

However, the departure clearly hasn't put him off football as he took in Morton's clash with Championship title hopefuls Kilmarnock.

The veteran boss has previously talked about his admiration for the Ibrox side, claiming "I am a Rangers man" in interviews when asked about managing north of the border.

However, he made a surprise cameo on BBC Scotland at half-time to explain his connection to Dougie Imrie's side.

He told BBC Scotland: "It's my local club when I'm up here. I've had a place in Dunoon now for about 25 years. I've always loved this type of football.

"It's a great atmosphere with Kilmarnock bringing so many with them. I think it's a good advert.

"No questions asked, the tackles are going in, the headers are going in so I'm really enjoying it."

He elaborated that he had a family connection and a back and forth with Ally McCoist led him to Morton becoming the Scottish side he supports.

Warnock added: "My wife's grandparents come from round here (Greenock), so it's always been out local club.

"When Ally McCoist has had a go about Rangers in one or two things I've always said Greenock Morton is my club, so it just sort of stuck."
