Neil McCann believes Rangers star Ryan Kent is suffering 'severe' confidence issue as he offers Malik Tillman verdict

Former Rangers forward Neil McCann believes Ryan Kent's "severe lack of confidence" is evident in his hesitancy in front of goal.

Kent hasn't been able to make the same high level of impact on games so far this season as he has previously at Ibrox, with the 25-year-old spurning a chance to open the scoring against Motherwell this afternoon. The former Liverpool youngster has come in for criticism in recent weeks and with his contract at Ibrox up at the end of the season, fans have been expecting more form a player who is technically in the shop window.

Analysing the important 2-1 win for BBC Sportscene, McCann feels if Kent was firing on all cylinders he would have buried the early opportunity with his left foot instead of deciding to chop back inside.. This was a big three points because the amount of pressure Rangers were under going to Fir Park today would have been huge. Individually and collectively it was about how they reacted. They did fashion a few chances. I think Ryan Kent is suffering with a severe lack of confidence right now.

"He should take it (his chance) with his left foot and drive it across the keeper. He elects to take another touch and that's what you do when you're suffering from a lack of confidence."

McCann was impressed with Malik Tillman, who went on a mazy run his teammate Kent would have been proud of before bagging the opening goal at Fir Park.

The Bayern Munich loanee showed he has talent with the ball at his feet, with McCann hoping his strike will spark the 20-year-old into producing more regularly for the Ibrox side.
