Neil Lennon lands Omonia Nicosia job as former Celtic boss takes on Cypriot challenge

Former Celtic manager Neil Lennon has been named boss at Omonia Nicosia.

The Irishman has been out of football for over a year following his departure from Parkhead in February 2021 amid the end of the club's pursuit of 10 In A Row.

He's been linked with Sunderland and a surprise move to Israel but has now landed a job in Cyprus following the sacking of former Rangers defender Henning Berg.

Lennon emerged as one of three targets for Omonia's hierarchy and has now agreed a deal to take over, the club confirmed on Monday evening.

The 50-year-old has signed a contract until 2024.

He follows the likes of Steven Pressley and Mick McCarthy in taking on a challenge in Cyprus.

Omonia are the second most successful club in the island nation and have won the top-flight title 21 times, second only to city rivals APOEL.

But despite claiming the title last year, they've slipped into the division's bottom six this term following a Scottish Premiership-style split.

Lennon captured five league titles across two spells as Celtic manager, as well as four Scottish Cups and a League Cup.

He also won the Championship with Hibs.
