Neal Horgan: Form 'bodes well' for Cork City on field

While some intriguing SSE Airtricity League Premier Division fixtures loomed large on Monday night, a result in the First Division caught the eye.

That was over at Turner's Cross where another large attendance was recorded as Cork City struck two early goals to defeat the division's early favourites for promotion Waterford.

That has put Colin Healy's side top on goal difference in a finely poised second-tier table, level on points with John Caulfield's Galway United - who have a game in hand on the other members of the current top three - and Ian Morris' Waterford.

Former Cork City league winner Neal Horgan was at Turner's Cross for the game and left the venue with a sense of optimism about his former side as he told this week's RTÉ Soccer Podcast.

"Last night in particular, Waterford came and we were all interested to see what this Waterford team were like and they were good, they were very physical, very athletic guys and clearly will have a lot to say about how the league goes on in the year ahead, but Cork dominated the game," he said, adding that the team has a good balance in midfield with Matthew Healy joining the pairing of Barry Coffey and Aaron Bolger.
