Nations League, Euro under-21 teams received CPR training

Players at the Nations League and Euro under-21 finals have completed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) courses that can help save lives, UEFA said on Tuesday.

Following the success of the first CPR training session held at the Women's Finalissima earlier this year, UEFA and the European Resuscitation Council (ERC) continued the programme at the Nations League finals in the Netherlands.

All four finalists - Spain, Italy, Netherlands and Croatia - were given the training to acquire CPR techniques and essential skills to administer emergency CPR, UEFA said.

Teams participating in the Euro under-21 in Georgia and Romania, which starts on Wednesday, have also begun CPR training as part of their tournament preparation.

"The memory of the episode at the last European Championship is still very strong in the memory of all the Azzurri," said Paolo Corbi, Head of Communication Department at the Italian Football Federation and National Team's Media Office.

"Throughout the meeting, there was active participation, both in listening to the information and in trying to learn the techniques of rapid resuscitation in case of sudden cardiac arrest."

Denmark's Christian Eriksen collapsed on the pitch and received life-saving treatment during Denmark's match with Finland in June 2021 at the European Championship.

The initiative will be extended to teams competing in youth and futsal tournaments throughout the year, UEFA added.

Additionally, UEFA staff, members of European football's 55 national associations and volunteers working at Euro 2024 in Germany will also receive the training.
