National success for West Lothian wheelchair basketball players

A string of Lothian Phoenix players were on top form as Scotland enjoyed a successful National Junior Wheelchair Basketball Championships.

The event, which was staged in Worcester, pitted the best youth players across the UK against each other, with Scotland being represented by teams from Grampian, Dundee, Glasgow, Perth and the Armadale-based Lothian Phoenix.

Scotland’s under-18 team were undefeated in their four games to seal top spot and the gold medal, while the under-14 sides fought hard to pick up silver and bronze positions in their category.

Lothian Phoenix ace Finlay Erskine was declared tournament MVP for a string of fine performances to cap off a great weekend for both the Phoenix and Scotland.

The success is testament to the players’ hard work, determination and passion for the game as well as the hours of dedication put in by the coaches.

The tournament marked the end of a successful campaign for the Phoenix, with their first team being promoted to Division One while a growth in membership now sees them boast teams in both Division Two and Division Three to go along with a side competing in the under-18 Junior League.

With the action getting going again next month, it’s set to be another hugely exciting season for the club.
