Nathan Bishop set for Manchester United loan exit

Manchester United goalkeeper Nathan Bishop is in talks to join League One side Wycombe Wanderers on loan in the summer transfer window.

The 22-year-old shone while with League Two side Mansfield last season, and the Manchester Evening News understands United were keen for him to play in a higher division at his next club.

Bishop made 53 appearances for the Stags as their season ended with a 3-0 defeat to Port Vale in the League Two play-off final and he has been attracting plenty of interest from EFL clubs all summer.

Former manager Nigel Clough admitted he would have 'loved' to get Bishop back on loan with Mansfield if possible, but he is instead poised to join Wycombe, who suffered their own play-off heartbreak when they lost 2-0 to Sunderland in the League One final last month.

Gareth Ainsworth's side have been searching for a new goalkeeper ever since last season's No.1 David Stockdale rejected a new deal to sign for Sheffield Wednesday instead.

Bishop was part of the 28-man United squad that took part in the first pre-season training session under new manager Erik ten Hag on Monday, but the English youngster is keen to get regular playing time again next season.

United are open to installing Tom Heaton as their second-choice goalkeeper this summer, which means youngster Matej Kovar could well start the summer as third-choice.

Fellow youngster Dermot Mee is also expected back at Carrington next week following international commitments with Northern Ireland U19s and is set to go into the first-team player pool for the first weeks of summer.
