Nate Diaz got his revenge on Gray Maynard in the most gangster way possible in 2013

It’s fair to say Nate Diaz isn’t much of a finisher these days.

Diaz, 37, hasn’t set foot inside the Octagon since his UFC 263 defeat to Leon Edwards.

It leaves the fan favourite on the end of a two-fight losing streak ahead of his return to action later this year.

And his last stoppage before that came against Conor McGregor in March 2016 when he shocked the world by submitting the Notorious at Las Vegas’ iconic MGM Grand Garden Arena.

But if you cast your minds back a few years ago it’s fair to say that hasn’t always been the case as was evident in Diaz’s win over Maynard.

In June 2007 the pair fought for the first time, with Diaz dropping Maynard in the fourst round before a guillotine choke earned him the submission win.

However Maynard would pull one back in a rematch a few years later, despite many believing Diaz deserved to win having landed more significant strikes than his opponent.

But Diaz got his revenge in 2013 when he battered Maynard from pillar to post to stop on his feet in the first round in the finale of season 18 of ‘The Ultimate Fighter’.

It meant Diaz snapped a two-fight losing streak as a result having previously lost to Benson Henderson and Josh Thomson respectively.

However, he had a few choice words for Maynard’s head coach Javier Mendez, who he felt should have stopped the fight far sooner.

He told Fight Magazine: “I was actually thinking what the hell is wrong with this guy’s corner and the ref for not stopping this fight because I was landing a lot of shots.

“I was kind of like ‘What the f**k? Is this s**t going to end?’
