Napoli's Victor Osimhen ejected from public training in awkward scenes

Victor Osimhen is the most expensive signing in Napoli’s history.

Snapped up for an eye-watering €70 million in the summer of 2020, Osimhen arrived at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium with the pressure of making the Neapolitans legitimate Serie A title contenders on his shoulders.

The 23-year-old had been snapped up on the back of an impressive season with Lille in which he scored 18 goals from 38 outings.

Osimhen’s first introduction to European football had come at Wolfsburg for whom he never actually scored, but he nevertheless managed to thrive while on their books out on loan with Charleroi in Belgium.

The Napoli star also boasts a sensational record for Nigeria with 15 strikes, including a four-goal haul against São Tomé and Príncipe this summer, from just 22 senior caps.

And life in Italy has been relatively bountiful for Osimhen as he opened his account for Gli Azzurri with 10 goals in his debut campaign, before raising the bar to 18 strikes across the 2021/22 season.

In fact, such has been the impressive nature of Osimhen’s performances that his stock has only continued to rise with various reports linking him with moves to Manchester United and Bayern Munich.

However, for now, Osimhen remains a Napoli player and his preparations for a third year at the club are well underway as he joins his teammates in pre-season training.
