"Name that keeps coming up" – Sky Sports reporter drops Arsenal transfer claim on £55m star

Arsenal‘s hopes of signing Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus could come down to his relationship with Mikel Arteta, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

The Gunners boss is desperately trying to add a striker to his squad and is interested in reuniting with the Brazil international, who he worked with for two-and-a-half years at the Etihad Stadium.

With Alexandre Lacazette back at Lyon and doubts over Eddie Nketiah’s future at the club until recently, a striker is Arteta’s top priority this window.

Therefore, Arsenal wasted little time in identifying Jesus as their number one striker target, with the 25-year-old open to leaving the Premier League champions following the arrival of Erling Haaland.

Jesus’ agent recently admitted they’ve held talks with the north Londoners and said ‘it’s a possibility we’re discussing’.

However, Tottenham and Chelsea are also in the running for the frontman, who City are demanding £55m for despite his contract with Pep Guardiola’s side expiring in 12 months.

But Sheth reckons that Arteta’s relationship with the Brazilian could prove crucial in Arsenal’s pursuit of the ex-Palmeiras ace.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “The name that keeps coming up in the last few weeks is Gabriel Jesus of Manchester City.

“When you look at it from the outset, it would fit. Gabriel Jesus knows Arteta very well from when he was Pep Guardiola’s number two at Manchester City, and I think that relationship will have a big say in whether Jesus goes or not.

“There’s genuine interest there from Arsenal and it’s a position they do want to fill.”
