Mystery signings lined up, Matt O’Riley contingency plan and Adam Idah latest – Celtic transfer state of play
Brendan Rodgers says he wants Adam Idah and 'one or two' others in the door before the transfer window closes – and hinted he's working on a Matt O'Riley contingency plan, even if he doesn't want to lose him.
It's been a relatively quiet window so far for Celtic with keepers Kasper Schmeichel and Viljami Sinisalo still the only two new players in the door heading into matchweek two. Paulo Bernardo sealed his return meaning that as far as outfield players go, Rodgers is working with a virtually identical pool to last season. With one big Adam Idah-shaped exception, of course.
It's an open secret the Hoops are pressing on to bring him back to the club and they recently got back round the table with Norwich to strike an agreement. Idah is thought to want the move and it does feel like only a matter of time, though some fans have grown anxious with how it's dragging on into the new season.
Rodgers though is relaxed and hopeful he can get the deal done - as well as a couple more before the window closes on September 1. He said: "I am hoping by the end of the window that (Idah deal) can be done with some others. God willing we can get that sorted along with one or two other players.
"I’ve always said that recruitment is vital for success on the football pitch. Bringing in the players that allow you to elevate the game. Especially when you go up in the Champions League then the recruitment of players is crucial. Especially in the big clubs, if you don’t get it right then you have very little chance to put it right."
Keeping hold of O'Riley could be just as critical for Celtic although the time may be right to sell given his value is at an all-time high after a stunning season. Rodgers, however, is in no rush to sell - but
