'My ex-wife stole £90k from charity - she hasn't even given back a tenner'

A pre-school treasurer who stole almost £90,000 from a charity has been slammed by her ex-husband after failing to repay "even a tenner". Mum-of-two Gemma Waterhouse was jailed for 18 months in February 2022 after committing the "grossest abuse of trust you can imagine".

She used an "appalling" long-running scam to deprive the charity of huge sums of money. It left staff at the school feeling "very angry, betrayed and deceived" - while she also lost the trust of her ex-husband.

He insists she has "done nothing" to compensate the good cause for what she did, Hull Live reports. The "disgraceful" fraud continued undiscovered for several years - causing a "complete nightmare" for the pre-school.

Waterhouse covered up the losses and even forged the manager's signature, causing a "terrible, damaging ordeal", Hull Crown Court heard. The 42-year-old, of Hopper Grove, Driffield, East Yorkshire, admitted fraud by transferring money from a charity bank account between January 2012 and January 2019.

She also admitted falsifying year-end financial reports and bank statements. Waterhouse was later ordered to pay £43,649 compensation within three months.

She is believed to have been released from prison after serving only about 20 weeks. The case resurfaced more than two-and-a-half years later at a Proceeds of Crime Act hearing when the prosecution asked for Waterhouse's former matrimonial home at Nunkeeling, near Hornsea, to be sold so that the compensation could be paid to the pre-school out of her half-share of any sale proceeds.

This was strongly opposed by her ex-husband, who still lives
