Mutizwa knocks Kaizer Chiefs as Golden Arrows cause massive upset

Golden Arrows stunned Kaizer Chiefs with a 1-0 victory at the FNB Stadium on Saturday night, with Knox Mutizwa's first-half goal proving enough to secure a sensational upset win.

Few would have predicted a positive result for Arrows in this DSTV Premiership fixture, coming off a run of only one win in their last seven matches.

However, Chiefs were also rusty, having last played 13 days ago when they beat Orlando Pirates 2-1 in the Soweto derby, and it showed in their performance on the night.

The result leaves Amakhosi with little hope of catching Mamelodi Sundowns in the title race, even after winning their appeal to replay their two outstanding fixtures.

The match started in sensational fashion when Arrows took the lead with barely five minutes on the clock.

It was an error from Chiefs at the back - a poorly judged backpass - that created the opportunity for Mutizwa, who showed good control before chipping the ball over Bruce Bvuma, who had come charging off his line to try to avert the danger.

Chiefs tried to hit back straight away through Khama Billiat after playing it up the far side, but Nkosingiphile Gumede was on hand to rescue the situation.

Some good work from Phathutshedzo Nange, combining with Billiat, created another opportunity for Chiefs a few minutes later, but Nange's shot from distance only resulted in a corner.

Arrows nearly went 2-0 up shortly after when another mistake at the back created some panic at the back but this time Bvuma was on hand to save the day.

And Pule Mmodi should have doubled the visitors' lead a few minutes later when he found himself with only the keeper to beat, but a slight moment of hesitation cost him and allowed the keeper to get a glove to the ball.
