Murder probe launched after man beaten to death in pub after England match

A murder investigation has been launched after a man died after being brutally attacked inside a pub after England's 1-1 draw with Denmark on Thursday.

The victim, a 57-year-old man from South Yorkshire, suffered fatal injuries in the attack at a pub in West Sussex pub - less than three hours after the Euro 2024 game.

The assault was carried out by three men inside The Dolphin and Anchor Wetherspoon in Chichester, according to Sussex Police. Emergency services and performed CPR on the victim on the street outside, but he was declared dead at the scene.

His next of kin have been informed, reports the Mirror. Two men have been arrested by the police in connection with the incident.

A 30-year-old man from Birmingham has been arrested on suspicion of murder, while a 42-year-old man from County Durham has been arrested on suspicion of affray. Both are currently in police custody.

A third man, also suspected of affray, has been identified but remains at large, with officers actively searching for him.

Sussex Police have issued an appeal for any information related to this shocking incident. A spokesperson for the force stated: "The cause of the incident remains under investigation, and we're urging anyone with information to come forward as we seek to establish the full circumstances."
