Murder arrest after young farmer, 23, shot dead in field

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a young farmer, 23, was shot dead in a field. Charles Kinston, 23, was pronounced dead at the scene, off Brizlincote Lane in Bretby, South Derbyshire.

Police said they were alerted to the incident shortly before 6.30pm on Monday, January 29, DerbyshireLive reports. A man, in his 30s, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder and has been released on bail as inquiries continue.

Mr Kinston, from Leicestershire, had been a 'highly thought of' member of Netherseal Young Farmers for 12 years. He was described as a 'man with a comeback for any witty comment' by Leicestershire and Rutland Young Farmers Club in a tribute.

The tribute, as reported by Leicestershire Live , reads: "Charles Kinston, what a character! We are devastated and saddened to announce his life was tragically taken from him on Monday 29th January.

"A highly thought of member of Netherseal YFC for over 12 years. The source of laughter for a strong club, Charles prided himself on enthusiasm and passion for everything he put his mind to!

"A man with a comeback for any witty comment, who devoted his love to everyone around him, especially his beloved sidekick Beth and son, Albert."

Det Chief Insp Matt Croome, from the East Midlands major crime team, said: "We understand that this incident has had a significant impact on Mr Kinston’s family, friends and the wider community. Due to the ongoing investigation, we are limited about the information that can be passed to the public at this time.

"Any further updates will be passed as soon as the investigation allows."
