Munster's Gavin Coombes signs contract extension

Munster number 8 Gavin Coombes has signed a two-year contract extension at the province.

The 24-year-old was already under contract for next season, but has agreed a new deal that will see him remain at Thomond Park until the summer of 2025.

Having made his debut for the province in 2018, the Skibbereen native is now set for his 50th appearance for Munster in this Saturday's United Rugby Championship Interpro against Leinster at Thomond Park (live on RTÉ2 and RTÉ Player).

However, it's in the last two seasons that he has firmly established himself as one of their key players, after winning the side's Player of the Year award in 2021, having scored a club record 15 tries in 22 games across all competitions.

That form led to his Test debut for Ireland last summer, winning two caps in the summer meetings with Japan and USA.

And while he hasn't been able to add further international caps since, his form for Munster has shown no signs of dipping, with four tries in 12 games this season, while he was named Player of the Match in their most recent win against Benetton last week.
