Munster GAA investigating alleged assault of Under-9 player
The Munster Council are investigating an alleged assault of an Under-9 player during a blitz organised by the Provincial Council at Dr Morris Park beside Semple Stadium on Saturday morning.
The young player was understood to have been hurt after a non-playing individual entered the playing area. The Gardai in Thurles were contacted in relation to the matter and enquiries are ongoing.
Bob Ryan, the Munster Council PRO, told RTE News that they are awaiting a report from the blitz and confirmed also that they will be investigating the matter.
This incident follows a series of flashpoints at club games in the last three months in different parts of the country. Two club mentors in Wexford, arising from two separate cases, and another in Roscommon have recently received lengthy suspensions. But there have been other incidents in other parts of the country.
On Thursday the GAA launched a 'Respect the Referee' weekend due to take place at senior county finals across the country next weekend.
