Munster confirm Malakai Fekitoa signing

Munster have confirmed the signing of centre Malakai Fekitoa, who will join from Premiership side Wasps this summer.

The former All Black has agreed a two-year deal with the Irish province, with his signing almost certainly indicating that Damian de Allende will move on at the end of the current campaign.

Tonga-born Fekitoa scored eight tries in 24 games for New Zealand between 2014 and 2017 and was part of Steve Hansen's World Cup winning side of 2015.

His international career ended upon his move to Toulon in 2017, where he played 39 times and scored 10 tries in two seasons.

Since 2019 he's been a part of the midfield at Wasps, although he missed both Heineken Champions Cup pool games against Munster this season due to injury.

As well as winning a World Cup medal, Fekitoa has also won a Super Rugby title with the Highlanders in 2015.

Despite representing New Zealand earlier in his career, he returned to international rugby last year with his native Tonga, representing their Sevens team, for whom he's expected to make a test return with in 2022.

The 29-year-old has recently raised more than €70,000 for those effected by the tsunami that hit the country in January.
