Munster and Leinster confirm URC fixture swap

Munster and Leinster have swapped their home and away arrangements for their interpro meetings in the United Rugby Championship this season.

After an agreement between the two provinces, Munster will now host Leinster at Thomond Park on 2 April, while Leinster will have home advantage between the sides at the Aviva Stadium on the final weekend of the regular season.

Their original Thomond Park derby had been due to be played on St Stephen's Day, before it was postponed following a Covid-19 breakout in the Leinster squad.

Last month, the URC confirmed it would be rearranged for Round 18 on the weekend of 20-22 May.

However, with an Ed Sheeran concert taking place at the Limerick venue on 5 May, it was deemed the pitch at Thomond Park would not be fit for purpose within two weeks, leading to the provinces to agree to a swap.

Their clash at Thomond Park will now kick off at 7pm on Saturday 2 April (live on RTÉ2), the weekend before their Heineken Champions Cup last 16 first legs.

Commenting on the fixture update, Munster Rugby CEO Ian Flanagan said, "Following a thorough consultation process between Munster Rugby, Leinster Rugby and the IRFU I believe we have reached the best possible outcome in this situation.

"We have all done exceptionally well in adapting to challenging and unique circumstances over the last two years in an ever-changing landscape and we are grateful to our partners and supporters for their ongoing support and understanding."

Leinster Rugby CEO Mick Dawson added, "This was not a straight forward process by any means but the reality is that we were approached by the IRFU and Munster Rugby with a view to facilitating a switch in dates for the two games.
