Munster confirm departure of Chris Farrell

Munster have confirmed the immediate departure of Chris Farrell, with the centre set to "pursue a new playing opportunity".

The Ireland international hasn't featured for the province since the opening round of the BKT United Rugby Championship.

In September a statement from the province said Farrell would step back from his playing duties with the province "whilst legal proceedings in France, concerning his alleged involvement as a witness to an alleged crime in 2017, are on-going".

The province have this afternoon announced that the player has been released from his contract, although the 29-year-old's new club is yet to be confirmed.

"Munster Rugby and the IRFU can confirm that Chris Farrell has been released from the province to pursue a new playing opportunity," a statement from the province says.

Farrell made 71 Munster appearances, scoring nine tries and has represented Ireland on 15 occasions, the last of which came in July 2021.

Head Coach Graham Rowntree said: "We wish Chris and his family all the best with his move and thank him for everything he has done during his time with us."
