Munster coach 'immensely proud' after upsetting Stormers: 'It's a huge moment for the club'

Munster coach Graham Rowntree lauded the character of his players after they upset the Stormers 19-14 in the URC Grand Final in Cape Town on Saturday night.

Munster had completely dominated the first half but would not have been comfortable leading only 12-7 at the break.

The Stormers came out firing in the second stanza and largely dominated. But they also struggled to cash in on several opportunities before Munster snatched victory late on.

The Stormers had a chance to win the game at the death when they set up a lineout maul inside the Munster 22m area.

But when the Stormers maul came crashing down, Rowntree had his head in his hands.

"It's elation from me, that. Head in my hands. Emotion. I'm not going to lie, it was emotion at the end there," Rowntree said in the post-match press conference.

"It's a huge moment for the club. [The] players, fans, they've been very patient waiting for this trophy."

It was Munster first Championship success since the 2010/11 season.

On the pitch afterwards, Munster captain captain Peter O'Mahony reminded the players of people associated to the club that they've lost in the last few years.

"The club has lost special people in that time, Pete spoke brilliantly about it at the end," Rowntree added.

"It's a special group, a number of players have waited patiently - Pete being one of those - to win a trophy.
