Munich draw sees dominant City power into Champions League semi-finals

Manchester City have qualified for the Champions League semi-finals after beating Bayern Munich 4-1 on aggregate following a 1-1 draw in Germany.

Pep Guardiola's side will now take on holders Real Madrid in a mouth-watering semi-final after the La Liga giants overcame Chelsea in their quarter-final tie.

Bayern made a lively start but were unable to take advantage of their early opportunities, the best of them being when Sane raced through but put wide against his former club.

There was also confusion when Dayot Upamecano was shown a red card for bringing down Erling Haaland but the decision was overturned as the Norwegian had been offside.

City then spurned a glorious chance to put the tie beyond all doubt when Haaland fired over from the penalty spot after handball had been given against Upamecano.

Haaland had another opportunity after the break as Bayern, in chasing the tie, began to get stretched but he shot straight at Yann Sommer.

Bayern went close again as a Kingsley Coman effort squirmed through Ederson's grasp and rolled across goal but Haaland made no mistake at the third time of asking.

Again the Bayern defence was caught out and Haaland finished emphatically from in front of goal to make the aggregate score 4-0.

Bayern finally scored in the 83rd minute when Joshua Kimmich struck from the penalty spot after Manuel Akanji was harshly penalised for handball.

It levelled the scores at 1-1 on the night but City advance to face Real Madrid in a mouth-watering semi-final.
