Mum's five-word response to police after being arrested in Elle Edwards murder investigation

A mum-of-three had a five word response to police after being arrested in connection with the murder of Elle Edwards. The 26-year-old beautician died after being shot outside the Lighthouse pub in the Wirral on Christmas Eve 2022.

Connor Chapman was convicted of her murder in July last year and later jailed for life with a minimum term of 48 years. Two men and two women are currently on trial at Liverpool Crown Court accused of assisting an offender in connection with the shooting.

Danielle Dowdall, David Chambers, Roxanne Matthews and Paul Owen all deny the respective charges against them. On Tuesday (October 15), the prosecution told a jury of eight men and four women in an agreed fact that the former was arrested at her home on Big Meadow Road in Woodchurch on the morning of March 28 2023 on suspicion of assisting an offender.

After being cautioned, she said: "I'm not assisting an offender". The 34-year-old subsequently made no comment under interview after being transported into custody, the ECHO reports.

She was later detained for a second time on June 1 2023. Jurors were today read a transcript of her comments when she was then questioned for a second time.

Dowdall, who is accused of minding Chapman's clothing following the shooting, said of Chapman: "I never would have thought that's what he would be accused of. He was always nice to me. I'd see him through the street or whatever. That was about it really. He was just a mate.

"I wouldn't bother with someone if he was a bad lad. I've always seen him as a good lad. Sensible and family oriented. That's about it really. We were just mates."
