Mum describes week-long side effects after four children given vaccine overdose

A mum has described how her child was given a Covid vaccine overdose of more than twice the approved amount.

She said her 10-year-old's son's arm almost immediately became sore after receiving the vaccine at the Ally McCoist Centre in East Kilbride, Scotland.

He also developed stomach pains, diarrhoea and a severe headache, reports the Daily Record.

The young lad also had a visible vein pulsing in his neck while still suffering from side effects a week later, according to the mum.

A senior NHS doctor told her: "There has been an error but I think he is going to be OK."

While the usual dosage of the vaccine is 10 micrograms mixed with saline solution, the young boy had instead been given 25.7 micrograms.

Scottish Labour’s health ­spokeswoman Jackie Baillie said: “Kids getting adult doses is pretty serious, especially when it is not a one-off.

“We don’t know the implications and there needs to be proper monitoring of these children. They can’t be left to cope with quite severe side effects on their own.

“There also needs to be an urgent inquiry.”

The mum was informed that it was "highly unlikely" for the overdose to cause any serious problems - but he still gave her his mobile in case he develops any severe symptoms.

The young lad suffers from a rare condition called chiari malformation - where the lower part of the brain pushes down in the spinal canal - and has already had two brain operations, potentially needing a third.

The mum said: “A doctor told me adult and child doses are kept in the same fridge and are not colour coded. It’s not surprising a mistake was made. Check the dose your child is being given.”
