Mum, 25, stole £50,000 of designer goods from where she worked because she 'liked to dress her son nicely'

A single mum stole £50,000 worth of designer kids Moncler and Fendi goods from the store where she worked before flogging them on social media.

Elle Makin had walked free from court because of her young son. The 25-year-old flogged the pilfered goods, including items from brands such as Moncler and Fendi , over Instagram, having falsified dozens of fake deliveries from the boutique in Liverpool

On Monday (March 18) she wept in court as she was told she would not face an immediate custodial sentence after her four-year-old boy "essentially kept her out of prison", the ECHO reports.

Liverpool Crown Court heard that Makin first began working at Kids Cavern in the Metquarter as a "picker and packer" in June 2021, selecting items purchased by online customers from the shop floor and warehouse before packaging them up ready for delivery.

The single mum, of Glover Place in Bootle, was then promoted to weekend supervisor in March 2022, becoming responsible for opening and closing the office on Saturdays and Sundays.

Paul Wood, prosecuting, described how her scheme unravelled in October that year after an undelivered parcel was returned to the store due to having an "unknown addressee". This package contained a designer Moncler coat but no invoice or paperwork, with relevant documentation similarly not being found on the company's systems.

Following an investigation, it was discovered that Makin's mobile number had been connected to the DPD delivery. It was then found that the same phone had been linked to a total of 45 purchases dating back to February 2022.
