Mulcahy: A solid start could pave the way for Kerry win

Defending champions, Meath clash with Kerry in Sunday's final in a game that will be "mouth-watering" according to former All-Ireland winner Valerie Mulcahy.

Kerry are looking to win their 12th senior crown and to go top of the role of honour, while the Royals will be hoping to make it back-to-back All-Ireland wins.

Speaking on RTÉ 2fm's Game On, Mulcahy says she hasn't been bowled over by some of Meath's performances this year.

"I haven't been that convinced by Meath, but I do think that if it's very close at the end and it is level, I think Meath know what it takes to finish the match off.

"But I think if Kerry can create a good lead, and then if they are up a few points with two or three minutes to go, I'd back Kerry."

Kerry have been waiting nearly 30 years to bring the Brendan Martin back to the Kingdom, and they have only been in one final since 2012 where they lost to a Cork side that featured Mulcahy.

"If you actually look since 2012 when we played them, back 10 years ago, there's still four from the starting team.

"That's amazing that players are still there 10 years on and they're leaders and so the likes of Cáit Lynch Lorraine Scanlon, both midfielders with huge experience.

Louise Ní Mhuircheartaigh has been an outstanding player for Kerry since she first represented them over a decade ago and Mulcahy thinks her experience could be vital.
