14 members of mountain rescue personnel along with paramedics remained at the scene for around 90 minutes as the man was assessed and carried to the ambulance on a stretcher for treatment.

A spokesperson for the Oldham Mountain Rescue Team said: "Just after lunchtime on Monday, we received a request from North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust, who needed assistance with the location, treatment and evacuation of a male who had suffered a suspected ruptured quadricep whilst out walking in the Dovestones area.

"As our vehicles arrived at Chew Bridge, one of the casualty's companions was able to guide us into his location near Wimberry Boulders. He was assessed and treated by our Team Doctor before being carried on the stretcher approximately 500m to the waiting ambulance.

"We wish the gentleman all the best for a speedy recovery, and thanks to his companions for helping to carry some of our kit out."
