Mountain biker airlifted to hospital after fall

A mountain biker was airlifted to hospital after breaking her leg in a fall. She also suffered pelvic injuries after she came off her bike on a moorland path off the Snake Pass near Glossop on Sunday afternoon.

Mountain rescuers stretchered the woman to safety before she was then flown to hospital in a coastguard helicopter.

A spokesperson for the Glossop Mountain Rescue Team said the crash took place on the Doctors Gate path near Urchin Clough. They added: "Team members were quickly deployed from Snake Summit and made their way down the Doctors Gate path to the casualty.

"On arrival, due to the serious nature of the injuries sustained, the team immediately requested a coastguard helicopter whilst also treating the casualty for broken femur and pelvic injuries.

"The female was given pain relief and loaded onto a stretcher which was also prepared for winching.

"The coastguard S92 helicopter swiftly arrived from Humberside, winched the casualty on board, then transferred her to Sheffield Northern General Hospital. The team stood down at 6.30pm."
