MotoGP Silverstone: Dixon dominates Moto2 FP3

GasGas Aspar’s Jake Dixon claimed the spoils in FP3 with easily the fastest Moto2 time at Silverstone on Saturday morning.

The Brit delighted the home crowds with a 2’04.107 lap to sit four-tenths clear of Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Augusto Fernandez with Flexbox HP40’s Aron Canet claiming third with his final effort of the 40-minute session.

Friday front runner Dixon led the way as Saturday’s action got underway for the final practice of the intermediate class. The Brit setting the 2’04.6 pace in the opening minutes from American Racing’s Cameron Beaubier, the Californian three-tenths adrift as the pair improved on their opening day efforts with just their third lap.

Pertamina Mandalika SAG’s Bo Bendsneyder sat third after ten minutes on track with Friday hero Fernandez fourth - and still in charge overall. Italtrans Joe Roberts headed Aspar’s Albert Arenas in the top six from Speed Up’s Fermin Aldeguer and Alonso Lopez while Barry Baltus and Somkiat Chantra completed the top ten.

Sean Dylan Kelly endured the second crash of the day, at turn 12 on the American Racing machine, from 26th in the session - Jorge Navarro having lost the Flexbox HP40 on his out-lap. Wildcard teammate Rory Skinner two places ahead and running an ever-improving 2’06 pace as his debut in the Moto2 class continued.

Honda Team Asia’s Ai Ogura was up to second, ahead of championship rival Fernandez, before Arenas split the battling pair as practice neared half distance. Lopez rising to fifth with series leader Celestino Vietti making an appearance in ninth, the Mooney VR46 rider facing a long lap penalty in Sunday’s race after a practice start infringement in FP2.
