MotoGP Sepang: Marquez slams ‘unacceptable’ Moto2 decision

Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez is set to question the Safety Commission on Friday evening following Australia’s controversial Moto2 race.

The intermediate class action was left running at Phillip Island despite Jorge Navarro stranded and suffering a broken leg - after being rode over by Simone Corsi just four laps in - with marshals repeatedly gesturing for the race to be red flagged, a request Race Direction appeared to ignore.

“From what we see from the tv, was unacceptable,” Marquez said plainly from the Sepang paddock on Thursday. “This is my opinion, but maybe it was some reason.

“My opinion from the TV, is unacceptable but first of all I want to ask why they don’t stop the race.”

It took two full laps for the Spaniard to be recovered by stretcher from the newly-named Miller corner, with the race continuing to run at full-speed just a matter of meters away. He later underwent surgery to his broken femur in Melbourne with Corsi needing treatment on a finger injury.

“I’m okay, my physical condition is getting better every day,” Navarro confirmed on social media. “I also wanted you to know how I felt on Sunday.

“Without any doubts this was the scariest moment of my racing career and my life,” he admitted. “To be super close at the track with the bikes passing by and seeing my leg broken in two, this shouldn’t ever happen to anyone. Thank you to Simone Corsi and the marshal who stayed by my side.

“A big thanks also to all of the Medical staff at the circuit and the Alfred Hospital who took really good care of me. Thank you for all of your kind messages, they mean a lot to me. The surgery went well and I am recovering. Thank You.”
