MotoGP Germany: ‘Fourth is all I had today’ - Dixon

Jake Dixon suffered a rollercoaster Saturday at the Sachsenring after overcoming an early FP3 crash to qualify fourth for the Moto2 German GP.

The turn three highside on his opening flying lap of the morning affected Dixon’s confidence with the GasGas Aspar rider unable to replicate his front running pace in the final quarter of the 40-minute session having waited for his team to repair the damage to his Kalex machine.

The Brit, however, managed to regroup in Q1 to secure his place in the final afternoon shootout with second fastest time before once again returning to the upper echelons of the standings in the fight for pole.

While he was unable to match countryman Sam Lowes’ near-lap record pace, his 1’23.897 - set on his second of six attempts - sees him head row two for Sunday’s 28-lap race.

“A crash in the morning made me lose some confidence,” Dixon admitted from Germany. “At the end of the third free practice, we got back on track, but I didn’t have the best feeling anymore.

“I didn’t have a great lap and we had to go through Q1, but we improved the bike a bit for qualifying. This fourth position is all I had today. I’m going to rest for tomorrow’s race.”
