MotoGP Catalunya: Rins breaks wrist, slams Stewards

Suzuki Ecstars’ Alex Rins was the unlucky recipient of a careering Takaaki Nakagami at the start of Sunday’s dramatic Catalan GP.

The Spaniard lasted just one corner of the Barcelona race before he was skittled out after the LCR rider missed his brake point and lost the front at turn one taking the GSX-RR and Ducati’s Pecco Bagnaia with him.

While the Italian was unhurt, Nakagami and Rins both faced hospital trips. The Japanese rider while missing Monday’s testing action back at the Catalunya Circuit is reported to have no broken bones, but Rins was not so lucky.

The 26-year-old seen on social media leaving the hospital with a cast on his left wrist with the team later confirming ‘initial checks found a fracture in the pyramidal or triquetral bone of his left wrist with no displacement while a further magnetic resonance (MRI) scan confirmed there was no ligament damage sustained.’

“First of all, I want to know how is Taka because I saw him in the hospital in a really bad condition, his face was with some pain,” Rins said after the race on Sunday afternoon. “But I think clearly he did a big mistake losing the braking point. He cross the track from right to the left so aggressively then he locked the front and he crash.

“You never want to see anyone injured, especially not a fellow rider. However, a mistake by him has cost me today, and another race with zero points is hard to take. I had a lot of potential today and strong pace, and I felt it could’ve been a really good race for me. But there’s nothing I can do now, and let’s see what the diagnosis is at the hospital.”
