MotoGP Buriram: ‘Today didn’t really feel like a race’ - Lowes

Elf Marc VDS’ Sam Lowes had a short, sharp Thai Grand Prix on Sunday after Buriram was hit by torrential rain during the Moto2 race.

Starting his first race since the end of June, due to the shoulder injuries sustained at Silverstone, Lowes was understandably tentative in the treacherous conditions as the action fired up off the start line. Dropping to the back of the pack with the lack of visibility, by lap two the Brit had climbed from 25th to 21st.

After having just two laps in wet conditions prior to the race, Lowes prioritised finishing, picking up two more places in the remaining laps before the red flag came out at the halfway stage, due to deteriorating conditions, to finish 19th. His teammate Tony Arbolino having take the lead of the race ahead of the early stoppage.

“Not much to say,” Lowes admitted. “I want to say well done to Tony for the win. For me the race was okay - we only had a few laps and they were in bad conditions.

“Starting down the field, it was very hard to see early on and also to find a good feeling on the bike. Then once I started to find a rhythm and pick up some places, there was the red flag.

“Let’s try to recover for Phillip Island in two weeks’ time. But today didn’t really feel like a race, which is frustrating after the decent progress we showed over the weekend.”
