MotoGP Argentina: Ogden aiming to learn from the leading group

Scott Ogden has certainly made the world championship sit up and take notice since his arrival in Moto3 with VisionTrack Honda.

The 18-year-old from Doncaster secured his first points in the class, three thanks to a 13th place finish in Indonesia, in only his second race of the season having also shown impressive pace in Qatar’s opener before an untimely crash out of 19th.

“This season so far has been really good,” Ogden told Bikesportnews.com during a set-up break from the South American paddock as he prepares for round three with Michael Laverty and Taylor Mackenzie’s squad. “It’s been a steady progress for the team and me also. It’s a rookie team and I’m a rookie as well so it’s been nice.

“Every session I feel like we’ve been making steps. We’ve been getting the bike better and it’s been really good.”

With the paddock unable to return to Argentina for the past two years due to the pandemic restrictions, Termas de Rio Hondo brings another clean slate for a majority of the lightweight riders and it’s a challenge Ogden is relishing.

“Going into Argentina I’m really looking forward to it,” he continued. “It’s a bit like Indonesia, because they haven’t been here for the last three years there’s a lot of people that haven’t ridden the track. So a new track for a lot of riders, it should be good.

“We have the wheel cover this weekend so hopefully that’ll make a difference and we can do another step.

“For me, it’s just about trying to break into that top ten and seeing if I can be in the leading group, because that’s important and then you learn a bit more. I’m looking forward to it, everything’s going well and it should be good,” he confirmed.
