Motherwell star eyes Aberdeen success with third Dons victory eyed as remedy to Premiership blues

Motherwell midfielder Sean Goss believes a Scottish Cup fifth round win over Aberdeen could prove key to bolstering the club's stuttering league form.

Graham Alexander's side haven't won in six Premiership matches and their latest loss was a 2-0 defeat to Dundee United on Wednesday.

Dylan Levitt scored a lovely long-range effort in the first half before former Fir Park star Tony Watt haunted his former club with a first United goal.

Aberdeen come next at Fir Park, a team Motherwell have beat 2-0 twice this season. Premiership football has been tough and a break may be beneficial.

Goss said: "It is a massive opportunity for us to get to the latter stages of the cup. A break from the league might be good for us.

“We have beaten Aberdeen 2-0 twice already this season and I would settle for that again on Saturday.”

Motherwell slipped down to fifth in the table behind United on goal difference after the loss at Tannadice. It could have been so different had Goss' long-range effort after a minute not cracked the bar.

'Well haven't won a game post winter-break but Goss believes chances like his just need to drop for the team.

He added: “It is hard to put your finger on but we are still in a decent position in the league. We just need a couple of chances to drop for us and I think it will turn around.”

“It would have been a nice start to the game but the keeper got a hand to it which was frustrating.

“It was a tough one to take as we created a lot of chances and didn’t take them.”
