Motherwell showed character to beat Hibs, says boss Stuart Kettlewell

Motherwell boss Stuart Kettwell says his side showed character to make sure of the points after Hibs pulled a goal back, which was shown in their 3-1 win at Easter Road.

The Steelmen were 2-0 up in 52 minutes through a Sean Goss free kick and a Kevin van Veen penalty when Scotland striker Nisbet's header halved the deficit.

But Motherwell regrouped and van Veen fired in a blistering free kick to make sure of the points, with nine minutes left.

Kettlewell said: "I felt it was a deserved win, I thought we were really good in the game. especially in the first half - I thought we were in control.

"I thought we started the second half well, but the biggest take-away for me was when we conceded the goal, against nothing really at that point, Hibs didn't have much in the game, and we then showed character to manage the game.

"We had to tweak our system a wee bit just to make sure we stayed in position that we wanted to be in,, but obviously we got that third goal, which gives us a wee bit more comfort.

"Coming away to Easter Road and getting a 3-1 and being as comfortable as it was for spells was good for us."

Goss bagged his first goal of the season, while Dutchman van Veen has now netted 20 in all competitions.

Kettlewell said: "It's just getting it right on the big moments. I see them do it in training every day, so to see them do it when it really counts at Easter Road is pleasing.

"Kevin didn't have his best first half, but when you've got a guy at the top end of the pitch who is such a goal threat and can step up in those moments is terrific, and I thought he was terrific in the second half as well."
