Motherwell fans singing in the stands gave us a boost and we want more, says striker

Jon Obika says seeing Motherwell fans singing in the stands has given the whole club a boost and they want more days and nights like those.

The 32-year-old says there’s more to come from him, having got 90 minutes under his belt in Wednesday’s 2-1 win over former club St Mirren, and wants the Fir Park players to push each other on to greater heights.

Obika, who is on loan from Morecambe for the rest of this season, knows Hearts will provide a formidable obstacle on Sunday, but says the same has to be true of them to their opponents.

He said: “We want to have more nights like that, more days like that. It’s something that we enjoy.

“You could see the supporters singing in the stands, and that’s something we look back at after working hard.

“Even in the day off, you’re happy that it brings joy to many, and I feel the supporters deserve that.

“The atmosphere in the dressing room is fantastic and it’s a performance we’ve been waiting for.

“It’s nice when the boys all work together and what you do on the training pitch is translated on the pitch, so we’re buzzing.

“When I first came here I felt like that was missing was just a win, because you could see the quality in the changing room.

“It was just getting it into games, and I feel that the supporters saw that and everyone around saw that.

“I know the word ‘togetherness’ has been thrown out a lot, but you could really see the character and togetherness within the club.”

Obika played his first 90 minutes on Wednesday night since his late arrival in the winter transfer window, and says fans will see the best of him soon.
