Motherwell excited over 'phenomenal' SWPL 1 chance as Alan Burrows factor in historic Fir Park fixture highlighted

Motherwell Women's boss Paul Brownlie says his side getting to host their latest Lanarkshire derby with Hamilton at Fir Park is a just reward for his players.

Graham Alexander's men's team aren't in action this week due to the Scottish Cup semi-finals, allowing Brownlie's outfit to play at Fir Park.

Opponents Hamilton have agreed to swap what was supposed to be a home tie for an away trip, handing 'Well a chance to host their first SWPL 1 game in the stadium.

Playing on the club's home soil has been an ambition of the women's side all season and has been backed by chief executive Alan Burrows.

It'll be a chance for them to try and secure their third win of the season over Accies and the ML1 head coach hopes his players rise to the occasion.

Brownlie said: "We are really excited for the players. It's fantastic and it shows you the level of investment from the football club this year.

"I think the fact we're getting a chance to play in the stadium speaks volumes of the work that's getting done behind the scenes.

"Alan Burrows has been pushing this for a while but it's just been about fitting it in. This was supposed to be an away game but Hamilton helped us out and swapped the fixture.

"There's a lot of really positive things going on at the club and to get this chance at Fir Park is phenomenal.

"It's good for the players who have been at the club for a couple of years and never experienced it. It'll be a fantastic experience."

Kick-off is at 3pm this Saturday. Entry is free although there will be buckets where you can donate money which will be used for the academy.

Still searching for their first win since January, Motherwell head into the game seventh while Hamilton are bottom.
