Motherwell boss Stuart Kettlewell welcomes board shake-up

Motherwell boss Stuart Kettlewell has welcomed the appointment of Kyrk Macmillan as chairman and says he has always had a good relationship with the club’s hierarchy.

Bee Inspired chief executive Macmillan was joined on the six-strong board by newcomers Grant Jarvie and Greg Anderson, in an announcement made by the Fir Park club on Wednesday.

Macmillan replaces Jim McMahon, who recently retired, and the three join chief executive Brian Caldwell, finance director David Lindsay and the Well Society’s Tom Feely on the board.

Philip Speedie is Well Society’s new chair.

While Kettlewell admits it took a bit of getting used to, going from Ross County where Roy MacGregor put in all the money, he has always felt backed by the board and the Well Society.

On the new appointments, Kettlewell said: “It shows me that the club is heading in the right direction. It was something that had to be addressed, and positions that had to be filled.

“The people who were in place before were a fantastic support to me, and to this club, and they followed this club for many years and still do.

“I saw a few of the guys at Hampden on Sunday [for the 2-1 Premier Sports Cup semi-final defeat against Rangers], just supporting the club, because it’s their team.

“But with them moving on there always had to be a fresh start.

“Fortunately I had a conversation with Grant, Greg and Kyrk on Tuesday and we all seem to be on the same page, to have a vision to try and move this club forward as best we possibly can.

“With them coming in there will be fresh ideas, impetus and different personalities and skill-sets in there as well.

“I think it’s a really positive thing for the club and we look forward to the future on the back of it.”
