Morton thrashing the kick up the backside we need, says Hamilton Accies star Steve Lawson

Steve Lawson reckons Hamilton’s thrashing by Morton is the ‘kick up the backside they need’ to kick start their season.

The French-born midfielder and his team-mates were left shellshocked last Saturday as Ton trounced them 5-0 at Cappielow, netting all their goals inside 54 minutes of the clash.

It was a third defeat on the spin for Accies and left them one point off the bottom of the Scottish Championship table, having won just once in nine games so far.

However, Lawson believes the manner of the defeat is the jolt the squad needed to shock them into action ahead of the visit from league leaders Partick Thistle this weekend.

He said: “After the Morton game we were all really disappointed but I feel sometimes it is good to get a kick in the a** to wake you up.

“Morton gave us a good kick with the 5-0 but I think this will wake us up and we will show more desire and anger on the pitch. I think this will help us for the next games.

“Sometimes when you lose games 1-0 or 2-0, you can think maybe we were just a bit unlucky.

“But the last game was not about luck. It was just about us. So now we know we have to work on things and get better for the next game."

Accies going into the clash with Partick knowing they gave the Championship pacesetters a run for their money in August.

A strong showing from Accies had them 1-0 up with seven minutes to go, before Brian Graham grabbed a late equaliser.

Lawson added: "We know it is tough against Partick, who are top of the league, but we drew against them in the last game away from home and I feel we were a good team that day.

“I feel we just have to play the way we were playing at the start of the season, and hopefully we can turn that corner.
