Moroka Swallows to appear before the PSL DC on 11 January for bringing league into disrepute
Moroka Swallows will appear before the Premier Soccer League's disciplinary committee on 11 January for their failure to honour two DStv Premiership fixtures against Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows.
The Dube Birds could be slapped with a hefty financial fine for their conduct that resulted in them being the first club to fail to honour fixtures in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) era.
The other potential penalty is the docking of points or expulsion from the league as per the rules of the PSL for this type of conduct.
Swallows announced that they couldn't play these matches due to an impasse between management and the club's players over the payment of their December salaries.
Previously, coach Steve Komphela had confirmed that he had to persuade the players to take part in the game against SuperSport United, which they lost 2-1 at Dobsonville Stadium, on 15 December after they went on a 10-day strike over unpaid salaries.
SABC Sport reported that Swallows have charged the players for "misconduct" for taking part in what the club described as an "illegal strike". While the club takes disciplinary action against the players, Swallows will have to answer to the PSL's DC.

"I can confirm that yesterday (Wednesday) Moroka Swallows football club was charged for misconduct and bringing the league into disrepute, pursuant to their failure to honour fixtures that were scheduled for 27 and 30 December 2023 respectively," said Zola Majavu, the PSL's prosecutor.
The club will appear before the DC next week at the PSL's offices at 11:00.
